On April 16, 2013, a group of us gathered to celebrate Chaplin's birthday..
Pam Beahan wrote the following poem for the occasion.
A Hero's Lesson
One of the many reasons that Charlie Chaplin is my hero
is because, by his example,
He taught us to insist on ourselves...
...no matter the resistance.
We must use our passions
to persevere toward the perfection of
the essence of who we are.
Like Charlie, we must never quit -
no matter the obstacles -
until we achieve our goals.
Without Charlie, we might never have learned
that City Lights could mean
an inner vision,
a bright, emotional path
out of life's many darknesses,
And that we all can be
ever rich in spirit and attitude
if only we will insist on ourselves.
